The ball isn’t the only thing the crowds are watching this week at the US Open in Queens.

Outfitted in Nike Tennis’ New York Collection 2011, many of the biggest name players are inspiring admiration with their wardrobes almost as much as their backhands.

And it’s no wonder, with Anna Wintour as a regular in the stands.

While Nike chose a sleek-and-chic pastel grey dress for Maria Sharapova, the tennis dresses for Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka are sportier and bold, in bright red and blue. And check out the faux halter on Serena’s dress, which has a whole design back story, if you’re interested.

Although we’re still ambivalent about the running skirt, this collection kinda makes you wish tennis wasn’t the only sport you can play while wearing a dress (figure skating so excepted).
