Physique 57 takes over Norma Kamali Midtown for Wellness Wednesday

A Physique 57 class today in the Norma Kamali store

Every Wednesday is Wellness Wednesday at the Norma Kamali store at 11 56th Street. From 11am to 3pm, the store’s Organic Avenue Cafe, which is somewhat hidden in the back, becomes a experiential showroom dedicated to the designer’s well-being passions.

Today in the Kamali store, shoppers saved $30-some dollars while jumping into complimentary Physique 57 classes. The popular barre and mat method creates lean muscles and core strength, and helps burn fat just using your body as resistance. Kamali herself does the class six days a week, says Kate Guideau, the store’s Wellness Coordinator, who is overseeing the event series.

Each Wednesday features a different type of event—the series kicked off on October 6 with Japanese tea docents from San Francisco who explained how to brew the perfect cup of Green Tea, and last week New Yorkers were given a culinary crash course in raw food preparation and sampling with a vegan chef. Gift bags abound. Kamali’s not just giving these wellness brands exposure, she’s giving away the goods, services, and expertise as a healthy gift to New Yorkers. (Though I did witness a Physique teacher purchase a cute Kamali tunic.)

Next week expect an eye-opening natural beauty event with Intelligent Nutrients (October 27 from 11am–3pm). The plant-based line makes virtually edible antioxidant-rich beauty products and natural scents (Kamali’s favorite) and is the brainchild brand of Horst Rechelbacher, who also created (and sold) Aveda. UPDATE: Horst will be there on Wednesday! Anyone with an interest in clean beauty products should go.
