Recipe: Cleansing Tonic Smoothie

Cleansing Tonic Smoothie recipeWe couldn’t have known how much we needed this smoothie when we road-tested the recipe a month back.

But now, when we’re sipping it all month long, and experiencing its energizing and vibrant zing, we’ll know we’re clearing the way for better health (and better times).

This is the time of year to sip ginger. The spicy root stimulates and soothes digestion.

And during the colder months, its well-known immune-boosting benefits can come in handy. Ditto its ability to stimulate circulation. (Bye-bye cold hands and feet.)

Ginger can even help ease aches and pains like a post-workout anti-inflammatory pill.

This smoothie also calls for celery, a diuretic that reduces water retention, low-glycemic green apple, and beta-carotene-loaded carrots whose sweetness can help curb sugar cravings. Just the thing to help you sparkle your way into the holiday season. —Jennifer Kass
