Welcome to My Morning Routine, where Patti Pao and other good-life gurus share their personal (frequently surprising, often healthy) morning rituals—to help you make your a.m.’s more awesome.

I usually wake up around 5 a.m. I let the cats outside to play in the hall in my apartment building, which they think is the Great Outdoors. Peter, a Russian Blue, likes to escort my neighbor, Mike, a hedge fund manager, to the elevator. 

Next, I make breakfast. I try to eat at least one meal a day from my blender. A typical smoothie for me is 1 cup of almond milk, 2 cups of spinach leaves, 2 tablespoons of chia seeds, 1/4 cup pineapple, 1/4 cup of cantaloupe, 1/4 cup of honeydew, and six frozen grapes (better than ice and adds natural sweetness). I drink my smoothie while I read The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

Around 5:45, I herd the cats back into the apartment so that I can brush my teeth and then jump in the shower. I cleanse my face and body with Restorsea Reviving Cleanser. After my shower, I apply Restorsea Retexturizing Body Butter all over my body. For my face, I use my new Restorsea PRO line, which isn’t on the market yet.

Next up is my makeup. For lipstick, I close my eyes and pick from my myriad of choices (I buy about 50 different brands and colors per season).

By 6 a.m., I’m getting dressed. My go-to is Zero+Maria Cornejo leather leggings and an Altuzarra top. I love Common Projects Women sneakers.

At 6:15, I walk to my office. It’s about two miles. Even though I work out at AKT in Motion every day when I am in New York City, my doctor said that I need to walk to “lubricate the muscles and joints” like the tin man in The Wizard of Oz.
