Fashionable women are just as likely to splurge on stylish yoga pants as a cocktail dress. Enter Vivienne Tam, who is now the purveyor of both.
The internationally renowned designer, with a Soho flagship, will debut “The Modern Woman’s Dream Yoga Collection” during Fashion Week on Tuesday—with the help of yoga maestros Colleen Saidman and Rodney Yee.
So this won’t be just any runway show.
It’ll look more like a choreographed outdoor yoga class, held at tree-filled Barclays Capital Grove in Lincoln Center. Twenty model-yogis, dressed in head-to-toe Tam, according to Style Bust, will put the cat pose in catwalk.
Tam collaborated with Li Ning, the male Olympic gymnast and now an athletic brand owner, to create the fashion-forward pieces. But she was no doubt inspired by the urban catwalk of New York City, teeming with yoga-clad women. Take a look around Seventh Avenue, a yoga fashion line seems way more relevant than a Resort collection (yawn).
And because the yoga genre has virtually no designer players, we could see many designers following Tam’s move into high-fashion yoga. —Melisse Gelula
