Kamali, a regular at Physique 57, has shared her healthy lifestyle favorites with her fans before via her Wellness Cafe, which sells supplements, natural beauty products, and green juices, and hosts talks with holistic experts. But the launch of the gym-inspired collections brings her healthy passion onto the runway for the first time.
“I live in active clothing, and I love designing active clothing,” Kamali says. “The Sweats and Active lines represent what fashion really is and what we all really wear every day.”
She designed the collections to include “cool, modern styles with fit, comfort, and function, by a designer who is active in physical fitness,” she says, and pieces—in gray, black, and white—range from high-fashion sheer crop tops that are more “fitness-inspired” to basic leggings you could definitely sweat in. Overall, the mesh panels and bikini-style jog bras are probably more appropriate for barre than boot camp.
It’s yet another example (Chanel sneakers, anyone?) of how gym wear is steadily sneaking into the fashion world. Here are five hot looks from Kamali’s collections. —Lisa Elaine Held
