Alternative (formely Alternative Apparel) launched its new Move collection earlier this week. And the brand, known for its burnout tees and eco-friendly fabrics, is taking things up a sweaty notch, by debuting wicking fabrics and performance-considerate cuts.
The brand’s original Move collection, which came out a few years ago, was only slightly different than its signature cotton tanks and comfy pants. But with this debut, Alternative purposefully created functional pieces to sweat in, without abandoning its eco-friendly fabrics altogether.
The line includes sports bras and leggings made from sweat-friendly Spandex, in cool peacock feather prints and color-block designs, ideal for dance cardio and other heart-rate-jacking workouts. There are also tanks and capris made from “Eco Jersey” and “Eco Gauze” in the mix, which are better suited to restorative yoga than a spin class.
“Move is inspired by women who move through the world differently. We are equipping her to lead a healthy lifestyle and look good doing it,” says Alternative’s womenswear designer, Tiffany Ruiz. “It’s less about the activity and more about how she fits activity in her day.” And if the activity is finding a workout just to rock these pieces in, that counts, too. —Molly Gallagher
