We’re in the middle of what’s being called a heat dome.

To survive it, we’re getting creative with our ice cube trays, rocking running shorts in favor of leggings, and whipping up our own nice cream, all in the name of keeping cool.

What does this mean for our beauty routines this month? And yours? Products that are more streamlined and low-maintenance than ever.

Our editors’ beauty faves are a de-clogging charcoal mask, a brilliant skin-restoring serum, and a tinted sunscreen that could pass for a foundation—all upgrading our looks in spite of the climbing temperatures.

Read on for the 13 brand-new products that are saving our beauty routines right now.

amayori shower mochi

Amayori Hinoki Onsen Shower Mochi, $21

For when you want to take de-stressing bath, but don’t have enough time. (Or a clean bathtub.)

Taking a bath spiked with essential oils to de-stress is a lovely thought, but during the work week (AKA the time when you’re most stressed for time) a soak in the tub is a fantasy—not a reality. The idea behind Amayori’s little mochi cakes is benefitting from aromatherapy while you’re in the shower. The grainy tablet dissolves faster than bath bombs, so the shower fills with the aroma pretty much as soon as water starts raining over it (the mochi cake sits on the shower floor). It’s a good primer for a good night’s sleep, especially if you’re worried stress will keep you up.

Lue by Jean Seo Skin Saving Set, $33

If Proactiv had an all-natural counterpart, it would be this. (Calling Katy Perry!)

The spot treatment is a 12-herb tincture, including ultra-exotic white turmeric, saffron, and ginseng—which makes me feel like I just did a round-the-world trip gathering spices when in reality I’m just hanging out in a bathrobe by the sink.

Treating a pimple sometimes feel like a hostage situation: You want your clear skin back, by any means necessary. For some people, that means slathering on seriously harsh products. But this spot treatment (step three in the set) proves you don’t need to. It made my breakout calm down overnight, without any residual redness—or worse, skin peeling.

instanatural moroccan rose water spray

InstaNatural Moroccan Rose Water, $14

For making the sweaty, disgusting, humid air in the summer a tad more manageable.

I spritz it throughout the day, but I always do a big spritz right after getting off the subway (or sometimes even while waiting on the platform) and it saves my skin. And me. You don’t know thick, humid air until you’ve waited 8 minutes for the next uptown train to come with zero A/C. This refreshes my skin instantly—hence the name—and the scent of fresh roses makes me forget the wafts of hot trash and sweaty people around me.

axiology lipstick

Axiology Organic Lipstick in Enlighten, $28

To glam up your lips in the coolest shade, ever. You’ll feel like a Spice Girl—in a good way.

This stunning amethyst shade is derived purely from all-natural ingredients, like avocado and coconut oils. Not only is it mesmerizing when you put it on (it’s buildable, so layer on for a more intense purple or opt for a pale shimmer), but it’s seriously hydrating as well. I didn’t need to reapply lip balm every other hour like I typically do—it’s like your lips are drinking coconut water. And that’s just on top of the unique pastel color that can make even your laziest outfit look cool.

marie veronique tinted sunscreen

Marie Veronique Everyday Coverage Tinted Sunscreen SPF 30, $48

For magical, Photoshop-like coverage on your face that also protects you from the sun.

We’re all aware by now that foundation is not the best idea to wear in the summer months, since it can cause breakouts. Marie Veronique’s new tinted sunscreen is the answer to my search for a light cover-up. With green tea infusion, sea buckthorn, and jojoba oil (to name a powerful few), this tinted moisturizer literally hydrates your skin while hiding any blemishes or red spots (cue Beyonce’s song “Flawless”). It gives foundation some real competition—and it’s also sunscreen, so it’s basically the perfect all-day, everyday product.

takesumi detox rose deodorant

The Takesumi Detox Deodorant in Cold Pressed Rose, $21

You will literally sweat roses.

Although this natural deodorant stick is black (that’s the activated charcoal, which draws out toxins), it goes on clear—and smells divine. And it’s called detox for a reason. With natural bacteria enzymes and bamboo charcoal (a cool Japanese innovation for odor control), this deodorant actually pulls bad bacteria and toxins out of your pits (sorry to be graphic) and eliminates your, ahem, heat dome smell in favor of rose flower oil. I also can’t help but be drawn to its packaging, which reminds me of Beetlejuice.

aromaflage candle

Aromaflage Candle for a Cause, $125

The ultimate multi-tasker: an enticing scent that wards off bugs.

Imagine being able to enjoy the great outdoors without returning inside decked out in mosquito bites? That dream’s come true with this candle, made of essential oils and vanillin that repel mosquitos. That combined with Aromaflage’s Wild scent—which has earthy notes of spruce, thyme, and cardamom—make it ideal for any outdoor hangout. The uniquely hand-painted candle is the result of a collab with New York City-based artist Susan Alexandra. Proceeds go towards a nonprofit in Brazil that helps prevent the Zika virus from infecting pregnant women.

vapour multi use palette

Vapour Artist Multi-Use Lip Palette, $46

If you want to look like you spent time getting ready, and actually know how to color combine.

It’s nice when your beauty products are multi-taskers. But hey, do you even know how and where to put them on your pretty face? No? No worries. This chic makeup palette comes in a fool-proof combo that inspires you to get creative in highlighting your features in three shades of pretty pink. It includes a lipstick, a gloss, and a multi-use pink—but really, I’ve found that you can use all of them wherever. Dab some on your lids, the apples of your cheeks, and over your lips and you’ll look perfectly flushed.

Drunk Elephant, The Littles, $90

No more B-list travel-size products on your weekend junkets.

When I travel, my skin gets to enjoy whatever the heck I have that comes in a TSA-friendly size—and like gas station snacks on a road trip, they’re often not half as healthy (or effective). But now there’s no reason to go on a skin-care hiatus. This kit is packed with clean cosmeceuticals, including such DE stars as B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel with hyaluronic acid, skin-rejuvenating Framboos Glycolic Night Serum, Umbra Sheer Physical Defense SPF 30, Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil, and two small bars of soap (and I typically hate faux-fragranced hotel soap), and more. These powerhouse minis mean I keep up my results-oriented beauty regimen on the road.

Beautycounter charcoal mask
Photo: BeautyCounter

BeautyCounter Purifying Charcoal Mask, $45

It’s like a juice cleanse in the form of a face mask.

Charcoal is one of those trendy ingredients that really works—especially when it comes to clogged pores. Combined with the pull-push action of kaolin clay, it helps pull out all the junk trapped in your pores that’s making them look larger and sending in salicylic acid, a credible pore clearer. Unlike masks that also dry your skin out in the process, this one leaves your skin feeling moisturized (that’s the hyaluronic acid) and brighter (thanks Vitamin C and lactic acid). And if you’re the kind of person who likes to feel something to know it’s working, there’s a tingling from peppermint. Consider this detoxifier a juice cleanse of a face mask.

vitruvi move

Vitruvi Move Aromatic Tonic, $42

Made for all your favorite workouts without showers.

There are a ton of times when a shower after a workout just isn’t in the cards—or isn’t offered at all. I’ve stopped blaming my favorite fitness studios for their lack of amenities, and just arm myself with post-workout wipes, and now this all-over tonic, which combines high-quality mint and grapefruit essential oils for a super-clean, fresh feeling. The Vancouver-based company says the unisexy blend helps flush lactic acid and fluid retention, too, which is just another reason I’m no longer obsessing over washing up within minutes of a sweat sesh.

votary super seed oil

Votary Super Seed Facial Oil, $110

Perfect if your skin is super fried from the sun and it’s not even Labour Day.

Last summer, a beach-goer friend looked at me with her bronzed skin, new “freckles,” patches of flakey dryness—and a look of “help” in her eyes. I so wish this skin restorer, and salve for sensitivity, was in my beauty orbit then. Kind of like an everything bagel, it uses tons of fatty-acid-rich seed oils—from chia, pomegranate, rosehip, borage, broccoli, and more—which help feed fragile/irritated/fried skin cells and resume their healthy, plump glowiness.

juice beauty cream blush

Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Last Looks Blush, $24

Cream blush is where it’s at.

So says Gwyneth Paltrow, creative director of Juice Beauty Makeup, who points out they have a much more natural finish. They give everyone a glow (and won’t take it away like powders can). I figured out you can go pretty bold when you dab on these little pots of pigment; they blend in to the point of selfie-ready. And because they’re made with coconut oil, super-antioxidant purple carrot, and anti-bacterial neem, you get some awesome skin-care benefits with every touchup.
