This New Nike Sneaker Could Help Push Your HIIT Workouts to the Next Level

You’ve got your favorite pair of tights for flowing through a yoga workout and know exactly which sports bra to reach for when you’re preparing to tackle a spin class. But do you apply the same level of specificity to your footwear? The new Nike Metcon 4, launching on Nike iD on December 19 and on Nike.com January 1, will give you reason to swap out the sneaks you grab to tackle long runs when there are burpees in clear view.

Designed specifically with intense training in mind, the shoe’s got everything you need to crush a fast-paced sweat session. A flat, strong platform provides an essential base for everything from lifting weights to tackling box jumps. The forefoot's two-layered "sandwich" mesh cushioning provides more a secure sensation that really hugs the foot (all the better to support you with, my dear)—ideal because really, who needs to be complaining about how their feet feel when your HIIT class is hard enough already?

In another upgrade from previous Metcon designs, the fourth version is made with haptic technology for enhanced durability. In layman's terms: Triangle-shaped patches of a rubbery material (inspired by the shoe's outsoles) are strategically placed in areas that are often worn down quickly, like the toe box and sides. Top it all off with a sixth eyelet that lets you lace those babies up an extra notch for an ultimate locked-in feel, and well—you’re good to go.

You may have to wait until early 2018 to slip ‘em on, but there's nothing to stop you from putting these beauties on your holiday wish list this year.
