“On sultry summer days or when you have to pack some versatile, easy, wrinkle-free options, a knit fit-and-flare dress will always keep its shape,” says Heather Shimokawa, vice president for fashion direction at Bloomingdale’s. For more breathability, consider a looser weave or crochet style.

Wrinkles are inevitable in swishier fabrics like silk and jersey, but Shimokawa has a tip: “Steer clear of solids in silks and instead opt for some texture or a darker ground print.”

“On extra humid days, I love a breezy, tiered or textured fabric like cotton eyelet or voile,” Shimokawa adds—a solution for those uninterested in clingier fabrics in sweltering heat.
