fp-escapes-retreat-1Between the globally-inspired clothes and insanely gorgeous photoshoots (think remote beaches and dramatic sand dunes), travel and adventure are a major part of the Free People ethos. Now, the bohemian brand is recreating their dreamy imagery IRL with the launch of FP Escapes, a series of curated wellness retreats around the world.

fp-escapes-retreat4“Through social media, we’ve seen how much our community loves connecting with one another and sharing their lifestyles with each other,” says Free People’s director of content development and brand marketing Abby Morgan. “The natural progression of that was to bring them together and let them fully immerse themselves in the essence of our brand.” To make it happen, they teamed up with Yogascapes, and FP Escapes was born.

After testing the waters (literally and figuratively) with an invite-only trip to Moab and then an enter-to-win event in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, the first official, open-to-the-public escape will take place January 9 to 16, 2016, at Xinalani Eco-Resort—an apparently amazing spot that’s accessible only by boat, with rooms overlooking the white sand beach built right into the side of a mountain—in Yelapa, Mexico.

Led by New York City-based yoga teacher Aarona Ganesan (who may be known to Well+Good readers as Aarona Pichinson) and Los Angeles yogi, healthy eating expert, and Philosophie founder Sophie Jaffe, the seven-night retreat will include daily yoga classes, surfing instruction, to spa treatments.

In addition, Ganesan and Jaffe plan to lead a series of self-care and empowerment workshops specifically created for women—sorry guys, it’s a ladies-only retreat. “When women come together, I feel like there is a really special bonding that happens,” says Ganesan. “I’m excited to take that to the next level and really connect around wellness, yoga, nutrition, and self-love.” There’s also a three-day vegan food-based cleanse that’s optional (no pressure, but Jaffe is a total superfood pro).

fp-escapes-retreat-3The point is to leave you feeling like you’ve just done something amazing for yourself—not just limit that experience to Mexico: “I’ll be teaching people how to really adopt my healthy tips for eating and living for everyday,” says Jaffe. “I don’t want people to feel like the only time they can feel this good is when they go away on a yoga retreat.” She’ll be sending guests home with nutrient-rich recipes—including one for her raw, vegan ice cream, just saying.

Feeling inspired to book a little New Year’s me-time? Spots are filling up fast, Jaffe says. But, if you can’t make this one, don’t stress; they’re scoping destinations like Hawaii and southern Spain for the next escape.
