We’re entering that stretch of endless New York winter, and Wanderlust—a sunny June weekend of yoga and live music in bucolic Vermont or breathtaking Squaw Valley in July—seems like eons away. Fortunately, you don’t have to wait until summer.
Four popular New York yoga teachers—Elena Brower of Virayoga, Barbara Verrochi and Kristin Leigh of The Shala, and Schuyler Grant of Kula Yoga Project—are c0hosting a mini-Wanderlust weekend this March at the Standard Spa in Miami.
While a handful of other teachers are involved, the retreat’s a kind of anniversary celebration for our studios, since all three opened about nine years ago, says The Shala’s Kristin Leigh. “Barbara and I will be co-teaching several vinyasa classes. I know one will be to half of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. Schuyler and Elena will co-teach the other side.” They will also teach led ashtanga and intermediate-advanced vinyasa classes. Rock on!
The Shala and Kula Yoga Project have held yoga retreats at the Standard for about 40 students at a time. This one should host close to 300, says Jeff Krasno, Wanderlust’s founder, who is building out spaces for yoga throughout the hotel, including the pool decks and Lido Lounge.
Also expect poolside Satsang, meditation, and lectures. Plus time for frolicking in the Adult Playground (the Standard’s tricked out pool area with mud baths and more) and outsize indoor hammam.
Wanderlust at the Standard, Miami Beach, is March 17–20, 2011. $475 (festival admission) $1,530–$3,180 (festival plus 3-nights lodging), www.standard.wanderlustfestival.com
