Considering Bella Hadid is a total #bossbabe who’s always on the go, you’d never be able to tell she’s dealing with some struggles in her personal life: The model was diagnosed with Lyme disease—a tick-borne illness that can lead to everything from fatigue to chronic pain and neurological impairment—in 2013, and the journey hasn’t been easy. But it hasn’t held her back a bit.
Despite dealing with symptoms of the disease every day—whether it’s memory issues or feeling physically ill—Hadid was able to walk the runway in her second Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show this year. And since she had to give up her lifelong dream of competing in equestrian events at the Olympics, she couldn’t be happier that she’s continuing to fulfill a new one.
“In my health, I feel so much stronger in so many ways and I am so grateful to all who have supported me, believed in me, and stood by me.” —Bella Hadid
In a recent Instagram post, Hadid opened up about her struggles—and how she’s so thankful for conquering them in Monday night’s show in Shanghai.
“What a dream come true. This year felt like my first year all over again. Emotionally, physically, mentally; in my health, I feel so much stronger in so many ways and I am so grateful to all who have supported me, believed in me, and stood by me,” she wrote. “Yesterday was so unreal on so many levels. I am grateful. I am happy. I am humbled. And I just can’t stop smiling thinking about it!”
It just goes to show: Whether you’re hooked up to an IV nearly every day like Hadid or another struggle in your personal life, you can get through it. Nothing can get between you and your dreams.
