Meet the jewelry designer with a green thumb. Brooklyn’s Sharon Goldberg is the creator of With Roots, a line of tiny terrarium jewelry with live plants growing in them.

Her necklaces, earrings, and bracelets (about $45–$60) all contain self-sustaining reindeer moss (which grows in a few colors), so you don't actually need to have any gardening skills to keep your pretty jewelry from turning to compost.

Just wearing the pieces make them last way longer than a bouquet of Valentine's Day roses. "The terrarium works best anywhere that it has close contact to your body heat," says Goldberg, who discovered the secret to their survival through trial and error over several months.

"They contain a little soil to retain moisture and charcoal for oxygen. As you wear a necklace, just exposing it to body heat and any regular sunlight you'd be getting generates heat and creates condensation, which waters the plants," explains Goldberg.  It's a whole little ecosystem dangling around your neck.

But that's no reason to be delicate about wearing them. "I have customers who wear them in the shower,” she says. And Goldberg also gave a thumbs up to wearing them to your hot yoga class. “The more you wear it, the happier these plants are!” —Melisse Gelula
