On hump days from April through October, inline skaters get together in Union Square for two-hours of group street skating—and this is the 2011 kick-off night! Once a month, Dance Manhattan hosts a free class, followed by a dance party. They don’t advertise the exact style of dance or the instructor ahead of time, but we’re told students can usually expect 30 minutes of slow ballroom-type instruction, followed by 30 minutes of faster dance. Okay, so it’s not exactly a calorie crusher, but the Brooklyn Bird Club is offering a free field walk on Pier 1, just in time to check out spring’s returning species with guides who know what to look out for.
