In supermarket-starved DUMBO, the arrival of Foragers City Grocery in 2005 offered an influx of loft dwellers access to seasonally driven produce and prepared meals.
Today, the neighborhood market opens in Manhattan, bringing locally sourced and organic goods to Chelsea (300 W. 22nd Street).
The brainchild of Anna Castellani, husband Richard Lamb, and partner Clifford Shikler, the store will be stocked with quality cold-pressed juices (yay, yay, yay), seafood that embraces Monterey Bay Aquarium guidelines, and hyper-fresh eggs that won’t linger on shelves for more than three days.
We’re stoked for the Foragers soon-to-open restaurant, as well. (More on that soon!) But, in the meantime, a daily special off-the-blackboard menu (maybe tea-smoked black cod) and a bottle of biodynamic vino to go from adjacent Foragers City Wine sounds like dinner to us. —Alia Akkam
