Happy May Day! Whether you see this day as merely the first day of the month, a pagan holiday, or a day to celebrate workers’ rights, May 1 falls smack dab between the spring equinox and summer solstice. Known as a cross-quarter day, May Day emphasizes blossoming—albeit in a literal sense via flora and fauna of nature or metaphorically in your life. Tune into uplifting aromas via essential oils or flowers. Buy yourself fresh flowers and consider diffusing an uplifting fragrance. Lemongrass suits this day, as this astringent oil acts as an antiseptic providing a clean, cleansing, and uplifting aroma to the atmosphere.

With the moon waning in Sagittarius, now’s the time to take your workout outside. Release that which you no longer need, including toxins in your body. So let the sweat pour out, and expel carbon dioxide from your lungs. Complete exhales help to release stale air (and energy) in the body. No need to invest lots of money in your well-being today. Take profound letting-go breaths, and expel old air at the bottom of your lungs. Maintain a longer exhale than inhale, consciously, and let go of the past. It’s time. With strong waning gibbous moon vibes, consider a long power walk, or run outdoors, preferably somewhere with trees.

Central to well-being and happiness is the concept of flow. You know the feeling of being in “the zone”—where you’re absorbed in your work, time goes by without notice, and your creativity feels like it’s on fire. According to positive psychology expert Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, PhD, (whose renowned book Flow made the idea of “flow state” a thing): “The best moments in our lives are not the passive, receptive, relaxing times…The best moments usually occur if a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile.” So use this waning gibbous moon in hardworking stalwart Capricorn to excel into the freedom of focus. Go for flow (and don’t settle for anything less!). Reaching and maintaining these states are as helpful to your health and happiness as meditation is.
