Astrologically, the Week Ahead Is One of the Year’s Most Anticipated

Beginning with Mother's Day on Sunday, then moving through the fertile and auspicious new moon in Taurus on Tuesday, and then into Jupiter in Pisces on Thursday, the week ahead is one of the year's most anticipated.

Mother's Day invites us to appreciate life and those who create it. While each of us has a unique relationship to mothering and being mothered, from an astrological perspective, this day falls mid-Taurus season—a time marked by fertility. Whether you identify as "mother," or are celebrating or mourning on this day of reflection and gratitude, take some time to focus on what you wish to cultivate in your life as well. Since the moon is waning dark, Sunday asks you to identify old and outdated ways of being and to get clear on what you need to surrender to step into the next iteration of yourself.

Also hold space for your own grief as well as that of others. Given the sheer number of lives lost to COVID-19, and how complex it's been for those looking to find their partner and begin to create a family, this sensitive day asks for even more conscientiousness than usual. Take time to check in on your friends and family, especially those desiring children or who are bereaved.

Then, get ready, because the new moon in Taurus is happening on May 12 at 2:51 p.m., ET, when the sun and moon conjoin at 21° of the bull. It commences one of the year's most fertile but complex lunations. A new moon in the sign of fixed-Earth Taurus invites us to plant seeds of prosperity, growth, sensuality, joy, abundance, nourishment, and stability. Since this moon forms a fortunate trine to Pluto in Capricorn and a luscious sextile to Neptune in Pisces, the energy is ripe for success. Meanwhile, Mars in Cancer sextiles Uranus in Taurus, further amplifying the support this new moon offers.

If you wish to conjure and create harmoniously with lunar cycles, you do not want to miss setting intentions with this new moon. The energy is fiercely productive, and projects beginning now that will have deep roots. With parts of the United States set to reopen soon, and Mercury in Gemini (a sign that favors fast social activity) entering his retrograde shadow on the 15th, you want to utilize the new moon's grounding powers. Even more so, considering the next full moon is an eclipse, given that eclipses herald fast changes.

So much is soon to shift, so take time to get into your body. Meditate, tune into yourself via stretching and mindfulness, and if it’s part of your practice, do a healing ritual. When it comes to work, bring important tasks to completion where you can so no loose ends linger unnecessarily.

Speaking of Mercury, at the time of the new moon, Mercury in Gemini trines Saturn in Aquarius, helping you articulate goals with clarity and purpose. Writing your desires is extra fruitful now, as is clearing up communication. Since Mercury goes retrograde from May 29 through June 22 and overlaps with eclipses, be proactive now. Again, all signs point in the direction of fast and turbulent changes over the next six weeks, so get ready now.

Jupiter in Pisces is one of 2021’s highlights, as it may ease so much of the polarization we've experienced. Pisces, after all, is about oneness and forgiveness.

On Thursday the 13th, Jupiter exits Aquarius and enters into Pisces. The last time Jupiter, the planet of optimism and growth, traveled in Pisces was January 2011. He'll only stay in Pisces until July 28, when he retrogrades to Aquarius until the year's end. Jupiter re-enters Pisces on December 28, 2021. Meaning, we’ll have a short window to acquaint ourselves with his potential in this sign, before we dig even more deeply into Jupiter in Pisces in early 2022.

Fortunately, Jupiter, a classic ruler of Pisces, does exceptionally well in the sign of the fish. Pisces corresponds with art, intuitive capacities, esoteric practices, and emotions. While in Pisces, we can expect a sense of empathy for others to grow, and we'll likely be able to reach new facets of our imagination as the cosmos will encourage all of us to dream new dreams. Jupiter in Pisces is one of 2021’s highlights, as it may ease so much of the polarization we've experienced—Pisces, after all, is about oneness and forgiveness.

Jupiter in Pisces amplifies innovation and spiritual revelation. Pisces also rules sleep, so hopefully, of us too stressed or anxious to rest over the last year will be able to use this cycle to heal. Sleep is essential to unlocking our healing magic. And Jupiter in Pisces suggests that we will do both—slumber and resurrect our mystical powers on behalf of our desire to recover from the numerous complexities we all face at this somber time in our collective history.
