New York foodies went into mourning today after the shuttering of iconic Gray’s Papaya in the West Village, and the business that will replace it—Liquiteria—will serve green juices, smoothies, and healthy food in its place.

The popular East Village juice bar, which recently went into expansion mode, announced today it will be making the space its fifth location in the summer of 2014.

But only after opening two new shops in Union Square. One, on East 17th Street, has been anticipated for some time, while the other, on Fourth Avenue and 13th Street, will open in late spring. This summer, Liquiteria opened on Eighth Avenue in Chelsea.

The brand is known for its amazing superfood smoothies and will also be expanding them to include seasonal options and acai bowls as it grows.

One thing they definitely won’t serve? Hot dogs. In addition to taking over the Gray’s space, the Union Square West location replaced Dogmatic. —Lisa Elaine Held
