Meet the country’s youngest yoga teacher

Some tweens love to follow One Direction. Jaysea DeVoe loves to teach yoga.

Trying to get in to one of Jaysea DeVoe’s yoga classes is almost the equivalent of nabbing a spot in Elena Brower’s Saturday morning yoga class. The difference? DeVoe is only 12-years old.

DeVoe is believed to be the youngest certified female yoga instructor in the U.S. She recently started teaching at the donation-based Bergamot Spa & Boutique, in Encinitas, California. And while this tween only has three years of asana experience under her yogi waistband, she’s got serious yoga heart.

In addition to doing her homework, getting hot coco with friends, and volunteering at an organic farm (you know, average middle-schooler activities), DeVoe completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training—the typical certification pursued by adults who want to become instructors.

She’s all about bringing her community together through yoga, whether that’s her tween peers (two of whom did yoga teacher training with her, according to the Miami Herald), or the adults who take her class.

And instead of gushing over One Direction and posting endless peace-sign selfies, her Instagram profile says things like “Spread love and light.” Which, by the looks of things, is pretty much what she’s doing. —Molly Gallagher
