The Cosmos Predict You’re Going to Have a Relaxing and Inspiring First Week of the Decade

As we bid adieu to 2019 this week, we do so astrologically with celestial momentum and support. Coming off last week’s solar eclipse and Jupiter conjunction with the sun, 2019 wraps on a seriously positive note. Yet with the sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto in tough-love Capricorn, the cosmic weather also calls for a sober look at what you most wish to create in your life. Now’s the time to evaluate the structures of your life and see where you need more support to create your desired outcomes.

To support you with this, Mercury in Capricorn makes a few supportive moves: Kicking off the week on Monday, Mercury forms a helpful trine to Uranus in Taurus. This Earth trine encourages grounded thinking, but also inspires creativity. (Who says you can't have the best of both worlds?) Lean into structure and discipline, but also open your mind to consider out-of-the-box options, because the universe might just surprise you in ways you didn't anticipate.

Later in the week, Mercury, the planet of communication, will conjoin Jupiter, the planet of growth. This rare and remarkable combination and exchange of energy perfects on Thursday, January 2, which means that come the first of the year, when you step your best forward into the new decade, you do so with this applying conjunction. This auspicious combination elevates intentions and helps you reach a higher octave of thinking. What does that mean for you? Stay positive, because this new decade ushers us into a new frontier. While we won’t feel it immediately, it’s for sure coming.

Regarding New Year's Eve celebrations, the moon will wax through its crescent phase, transiting Pisces. Pisces, a mutable water sign ruled by Neptune, elicits emotion, meaning the changing of the decade could feel a bit (or very) emotional. If this is the case, allow yourself to explore what’s coming up for you. (When your eyes well up with tears, for example, let them fall.) Keep in mind that music proves especially fruitful as we transition from one decade into another, given the moon’s placement in Pisces. So no matter how you plan to spend the holiday, whether it’s going out on the town or staying tucked in at home, do make music a part of your ritual. Singing and dancing can help the body to process unspoken emotions in unique ways. Take a dance class, or be sure your plans with friends include listening to music in some way.

On New Year’s Day, don’t be surprised if you feel extra sleepy. If you lack the get-up-and-go that you crave, be patient with yourself.

On New Year’s Day, don’t be surprised if you feel extra sleepy. No matter what you did the night before, whether it entailed getting lots of sleep or very little, the New Year kicks off with a heavy zodiacal emphasis of Mercury in Capricorn, and the moon continues to wax in Pisces. At the same time, Mars traverses the tail end of Scorpio. This combination of Earth and water may feel like mud. So if you lack the get-up-and-go that you crave, be patient with yourself. Once the moon moves from Pisces into Aries at 11 p.m., EST on January 1, the cosmic dance moves to a more up-tempo beat. And since January 2 is a gold-star day, due to Jupiter and Mercury’s conjunction plus the moon in Aries, you’ll want to hit up the gym, yoga studio, or cycling class and get your New Year’s energy into full motion then. But on New Year’s Day itself, you may want movies, a blanket, and nothing else—and that’s okay.

There’s even more good news, given the New Year's gust of energy coming at the tail end of the week: On Friday, January 3, Mars, the planet action, shifts from Scorpio into Sagittarius. While Mars does well in its home sign of Scorpio (Mars co-rules Scorpio with Pluto), his move into Sagittarius ignites the engines in powerful ways. This change ushers in expansive energy, especially as it relates to fitness. As Mars in Sagittarius brings on the fire, you’ll catch the spirit of joy and can apply that to your New Year's goals. Simultaneously, Mercury hovers close to the moon’s south node. Mercury on the south node brings issues from the past to the present and provides you with the clarity required to determine the best path forward. Your intuition will come in loud and clear, so trust what you see you, feel, and know at this moment.

Come Sunday, January 5, Mars trines Chiron, ushering in healing potential. This fire trine pulls another lever of possibility. As Mars settles into expansive Sagittarius and perfects his angle to healing Chiron, the restoration of spirit becomes possible on an even deeper level. Lean in and enjoy.

And remember that the month kicks off amid an intense eclipse season. Given that the upcoming full moon is also an eclipse, boasting some of the most extraordinary aspects of our generation, you'll want to buckle your seat belt. Trust that the topsy-turvy turns are precisely what you need to manifest your highest destiny.
