She may be known as The Blender Girl, but if you’ve ever read Tess Masters’ blog, you’ll know her juicer sees its fair share of action, too. “To me the blender is the greatest culinary gift bestowed on us since fire,” says Masters. “But I also drink pulped and pulp-free juices.”
In fact, while Masters blends everyday, she also does a day-long juice fast once a week. “There’s a joke in may family that I could live without my teeth,” quips the Aussie ex-pat now living in Los Angeles.
Passionate about whole foods, wild greens, and vegan and gluten-free cooking, too, Masters published her first book The Blender Girl: Super-Easy, Super-Healthy Meals, Snacks, Desserts, and Drinks this year.
It’s packed with smoothies galore but also tons of gluten-free, vegan recipes you can chew on, including a Glowing Greek Salad, raw spring rolls, and spicy chickpea burgers for which Portobello mushroom serve as the buns. (Brilliant!) “Blending is more of a metaphor for how I live my life,” she explains. “I combine this and that to maintain a healthy balance.”
For Masters the “perfect blend” that keeps her feeling her best is an alkaline, plant-based diet. So it’s no wonder that her favorite juice is an alkalizing superstar.
“The parsley, cilantro, and mint are wonderful detoxifying agents and fabulous blood purifiers,” says Masters. “I add one green apple (I use green because those generally have the lowest sugar content). But you could add two apples if you want yours to be sweeter. Either way, this juice is a winner.” —Rachel Marlowe

Blend and enjoy!
1 bunch flat-leaf parsley
1 bunch cilantro
1 bunch of mint
1 to 2 green apples
1/2 lemon, peeled
½ cup water
Put the ingredients through your juicer by first adding some of herbs then alternating with some pieces of apple and water (to get the most juice out of the herbs). Then strain with a fine mesh sieve or just it drink pulped.
