My Five Beauty Obsessions: Aslaug Magnusdottir

As co-founder of Moda Operandi with Lauren Santo Domingo, Magnusdottir connects consumers with high-fashion faves. Here’s what the taste-maker keeps in her beauty bag.

Aslaug Magnusdottir has been anointed “Fashion’s Fairy Godmother” by Vogue. She’s the co-founder, along with Lauren Santo Domingo, of Moda Operandi, an online luxury retailer that allows customers to buy fashion directly off the runway, months before the pieces even go into production.

This forward-thinking entrepreneur combines beauty and brains. Originally from Iceland (home of the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa!), Aslaug has serious scholarly training (an MBA from Harvard and a JD from Duke), plus a long and impressive luxury pedigree. She played an important role at Gilt Groupe as VP of Premium Products and Services. Before that she was President of House of Waris Fine Jewelry.

Last week, Moda Operandi shed its members-only designation and opened its portal to everyone, setting it up for even larger growth down the road.

Here’s what the fashion taste-maker keeps in her beauty bag:

silica-mud-exfoliator1. Blue Lagoon Silica Mud Exfoliator ($80)
This is my go-to exfoliator for my face and body. It originates from one of the most unique and beautiful destinations in my home country of Iceland, the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa. When I travel home I always go straight to the source, and after an hour of leisurely bathing, I come out with clean and glowing skin. In New York, I always keep a tube of the mud and use it weekly to keep my skin healthy and radiant.

2. Benefit Foundation Stick ($34)
This trusty stick is a triple threat—it works as a concealer, foundation and powder all in one. It takes up (almost) no space, so it can fit in the even the tiniest of clutches!

3. Lancome Artliner ($29.50)
If your eyes are the window to your soul, your liner is the decorative treatment. A longtime favorite of mine, the Lancome Artliner gives me that extra bit of drama, and keeps my eyes defined and smudge free all day and into the night.

Tom Ford lip color4. The whole Radical Skincare line
Besides being some of the best skin-care products I’ve used, the packaging is fantastic. The easily closeable pump keeps the hygiene level at a maximum while making the products easy to travel with.

5. Tom Ford Private Label in Pink Dusk ($48)
I typically opt for dark eyes but light shades of lipstick. The Tom Ford lipstick in Pink Dusk is a gentle pink color that lasts all day long.
