My Five Beauty Obsessions: Kelly Morris

Kelly Morris yoga instructor new york

Kelly Morris is a serious force on the New York yoga scene.

She’s the creator of the popular Conquering Lion Yoga Teacher Training program, teaches at yoga festivals like at Wanderlust NYC this weekend, and counts celebs like Russell Simmons and Diane Von Furstenberg among her fans.

And she’s a serious knockout.

We checked in with Morris to find out what—aside from her daily yoga and mediation—makes her glow.

1. Salux Exfoliating Towels ($5.35) These things are mind-bogglingly good. It’s like taking a shredded tin can to your skin and rubbing off the top layer. I exaggerate, but these are not for the faint of heart. They are, however, for anyone who understands that daily cell turnover is key to maintaining young skin. I use them religiously. Buy the yellow ones, they’re the roughest.

bumble and bumble shampoo2. Bumble and Bumble Hair Powder ($35) A friend, Michael Gordon, the founder of Bumble and Bumble, introduced me to his amazing product that rocks for us girls with fine hair. I don’t use it as ‘shampoo.’ I use it to make my limp locks look Britney-extension-thick without having gross pellets of glue stuck to my head. I always wonder what guys think when they run their fingers through a scalp like that. If I were that poor dude, I’d bolt.

3. Fresh Soy Face Cleanser ($15) My close friend and celebrity make-up artist, Christian McCulloch, turned me on to this cleanser a few years back during a photo shoot. He’d put me in eye makeup a la Donatella Versace, and no one, including my then boyfriend, knew who I was. Literally. This cleanser took it all off—and there was a lot! Now I use it constantly. It smells divine, and leaves your skin feeling soft and baby-like.

4. The ocean. The ocean has incredible healing properties—the salt draws out impurities in the skin, it increases circulation, which then speeds up skin cell turnover, and certain adventuresome folks not only put seaweed in their mouth, but on their faces!

5. Making love! The hippies had it right: Make love, not war. Human touch is crucial to every level of health and beauty, as is care, love, and respect. I’m not saying you should get drunk and hook up with a random stranger whose weird bow-tie struck you as charming, despite the fact that he’s 36 and still lives with his mother. If you’re not involved with someone you love, get a massage once a week. Touching yourself does not count. —Lisa Elaine Held
