Whether you're writing up traditional resolutionssetting intentions, or just Kondo-ing everything in your life (from your home to your heart to your meal plans), a new year is a fresh start. Time to make 2017 your best yet!

But if you're struggling with where to start, Sandra Sitron—the astrologer behind Strong Eye Astrology—highly recommends looking to the stars for some direction. Because if you're an airy Gemini, for instance, who's written up an oh-so-Virgo to-do list, you may be setting yourself up for failure.

"When you make a resolution you’re saying, 'I promise that I will do this thing that is great for me. It’s going to meet a need that I have and it’s going to improve the quality of my life,'" Sitron says. "To understand the best resolution for your sign, we need to understand what each sign needs—and how each sign works best."

To help you make a 2017 plan and stick to it, Sitron has some tips for each sign: What to do and, just as important, how to do it. Her suggestions are based on the transits of Saturn (which relates to challenging lessons) and Jupiter (which is all about expansion) through each chart for the next year. And Sitron recommends you look at the suggestions for both your sun sign and rising sign (if you don't know those, find out here).

Happiness tips for Aries

Aries

What resolution to make
As Saturn moves through your 9th house this year, your most challenging resolution will revolve around expanding your mind through higher education and travel. With Jupiter moving through your 7th house, your easiest resolution will revolve around being a good partner—listening, being mindful of boundaries, and noticing your relationship patterns.

How to accomplish it
Start strong. Aries is a cardinal sign, and cardinal energy is initiative. This sign loves to start new projects because it’s exhilarating. For those born under Aries, a whole year is too long for a resolution—they lose steam. Aries should start fresh with a new resolution every three months.

As a passionate fire sign, Aries needs to be able to take action on resolutions. Get into an action-celebration cycle: Take small actions that are aligned with your resolution and then immediately celebrate the success. Jump for joy! Call a friend and share! Make progress fun.

Happiness tips for Taurus

What resolution to make
As Saturn moves through your 8th house this year, your most challenging resolution will be about forgiveness, letting go, and healing. With Jupiter in the 6th house your easiest resolution will have to do with creating healthy habits.

How to accomplish it
Start slow. Taurus is a fixed sign. Fixed energy is enduring. Taurus people love to build upon what they started. Once fixed signs get going, they are hard to stop. Sometimes it can take them awhile to make progress, but once they do, inertia takes over. So, Taurus: Take the month of January to rev up your engines and get acquainted with your resolutions. Then view the year as an arc—start slow in the winter, gain speed in the spring and summer, and then just ride on the momentum you've built up.

As a practical earth sign, Taurus needs to have a plan, and it has to be very simple and sensible.. Those born under this sign need to know their goal, and they need to know what five steps they have to do to reach it.

Because those born under Gemini are interested in making adjustments, they need to keep coming back to their resolution every month. During the monthly check-in, ask two questions: What do I need to adjust about this resolution to help it meet my current needs?
