NYC Parks and Rec hosts top fitness classes for free this summer

Equinox fitness trainers, IntenSati instructors, and a few Yogaworks teachers are giving away classes this summer.

They’re all participating in Shape Up NYC, a free program offered by your friendly (yet Amy Poehler-free) Parks and Rec Department, which started this week.

The classes from kickboxing and Pilates Fusion to Cardio Sculpt will be held at 42 of the city gyms, rec centers, and parks in all five boroughs, and are open to New Yorkers of all ages, and nearly all abilities. It’s a great idea since instruction, and not real estate, has been the Parks & Recs Department fitness programming challenge.

It’s an impressive undertaking for the city that never sleeps—and never cooks—to offer a summer-long opportunity on this scale. And even more impressive that top teachers are literally volunteering to put us through our paces.

For the class schedule, and the sign-up form, which you bring to your first class, or to volunteer to teach a class, visit www.nycgovparks.org
