After serving nearly ten years as the CEO and president of New York Road Runners, Mary Wittenberg will be leaving her post, reports the New York Times.

Wittenberg will be heading “an endeavor by the billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson that will organize running and cycling races in Britain and look to expand to South Africa and the United States.” (Woah!)

The avid runner is credited for building the New York City Marathon into the mega fitness event that it is today. And, in this new role, she truly looks to be fulfilling her characterization in the Times as “one the most powerful female executives in international sports.” —Sarah Sarway
