Outdoor fitness and yoga you don’t want to miss this August

You've got a month to catch some sweaty outdoor workouts and yoga classes around the city before they wrap up come fall. Here are the best.

In the meantime, here are some August outdoor fitness highlights to make planning summer’s final hurrah easy.

From outdoor yoga with a Manhattan skyline backdrop to Brooklyn Bridge-framed beach volleyball, these events will help you remember the sunny season’s end with a sweaty smile.

Thursday, August 9 @ 7 a.m.
This marks the last installment of Union Square Park’s Summer in the Square. Join the morning running club at 7 a.m. with a trainer from CLAY, hop into an 8 a.m. Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp class, or take CLAY’s Power Hour class at 9 a.m., which includes cardio, strength training, and plyometrics. Sunday, August 12 @ 10 a.m.
Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City may seriously be the city’s best outdoor yoga venue. Flow through your vinyasa with teachers from The Yoga Room while gazing at the Empire State Building and passing kayakers, and breathing in the cool breeze off the river. Free, www.the-yoga-room.com

Tuesday, August 14 @ 6:30 p.m.
Lole and Fitist’s summer series on Pier 25 has featured some of the city’s best yoga and fitness instructors. This week, Aerospace founders Michael Olajide, Jr. and Leila Fazel will teach a boxing-barre combo, which is perfect if you’re feeling inspired by the debut of women’s boxing at the Olympics. Run JackRabbit Sports’ Battle of Brooklyn 10-Miler in Prospect Park on your own or with a relay team of friends. While the race commemorates a battle of the Revolutionary War, your only fight will be with the park’s big hill. $35–40, www.jackrabbitsports.com
