Pop Up Yoga NYC hosts classes in a Chelsea art gallery—and beyond

Pop Up Yoga
Yoga at ArtNowNY in Chelsea kicks off on October 9

This month, Pop Up Yoga NYC is bringing its wandering yoga classes to a Chelsea art gallery, where yogis will be able to focus their drishti on abstract expressionist paintings while balancing in tree pose.

And the gallery is just a first stop. The company, which launched over the summer with classes at Dekalb Market, is currently planning classes at Organic Avenue, ping-pong social club SPIN, Cowboy Pizza, and more.

This four-week series will take place at ArtNowNY, with Laughing Lotus’ Francesca Bove teaching to live musical accompaniment, while artwork by John Platt and Ryan Keeley is on display.

“I find a very strong connection between the disciplines of yoga and art,” Bove said in a press release. “Both practices require discipline and have a commonality of finding truth and beauty.”

At the end of the month, participants will be invited to a yoga-art party with DJs, food, and drinks. Just don’t sip your green juice too close to the paintings. —Lisa Elaine Held

Tuesdays, Oct. 9–30, 7:00-8:30 p.m., $60 for four-week series or $20 for one class, ArtNowNY, 548 W. 28th St., between 10th and 11th Aves., 2nd fl., www.popupyoga-nyc.com
