We recap everything earth-shattering that happened in health and wellness this week: November 16–22, 2013.


Quickly expanding national barre chain Pure Barre announced it will open a Williamsburg franchise studio in January 2014. The studio will be on Wythe Avenue inside the luxe condo building 50 North 5th. The brand recently announced its first Brooklyn studio in Cobble Hill.

SoulCycle opened the doors to a Palo Alto studio today, Friday, November 22. And it also announced that its new Flatiron location, on 19th Street between Fifth and Sixth, will debut on Wednesday, December 4, with 63 bikes. (Yes, we announce another Soul opening every week.)

Uplift Studios will debut 25-minute express versions of its Cardio and Strength classes on December 2, for the busiest of New York women.

Brooklyn’s Chalk Gyms introduced a new series of mommy or daddy-and-me classes, from yoga to bootcamp. (A program we’re also calling Babies as Weights!) The classes will be free for members for the first two weeks of December.

Whole Foods announced that its first Brooklyn store in Gowanus will open on Tuesday, December 17, including its 20,000-square-foot rooftop greenhouse in partnership with Gotham Greens.


Natural beauty brand Indie Lee debuted three new products—a Rosehip Cleanser, Squalane Facial Oil, and Unscented Body Lotion.

Wellness TV channel Veria Living is featuring Well+Good’s founders on the show Naturally Beautiful on Tuesday, November 26 at 7 p.m. You can tune in to watch them chat about clean makeup and food trends and their beauty icons with host Nitika Chopra either online or on the DISH Network (Ch. 218), FiOS (162) and Cablevision (164).


Brooklyn’s SyncStudio is hosting donation-based cycling and yoga classes this Sunday, November 24 to raise funds for Typhoon Haiyan relief. Class go-ers (or skippers) can also support the studio’s fundraising efforts online.

Williamsburg’s LBDA will host Blades Beauty Course, Holiday Sparkle Edition on December 8, where attendees can learn how to apply fab holiday-party makeup from natural makeup artist Jessa Blades.
