FITNESS STUDIO BUZZ
According to Blood, Sweat, & Cheers, a massive rock climbing gym will open in Long Island City this May. The Cliffs at Long Island City will feature 30,000 square feet of climbing wall space, plus group fitness classes and other fitness equipment.
The Bar Method will be opening a second Manhattan location in Midtown. Details and timing are still being worked out.
Barry’s Bootcamp raised class prices at its New York studios for the first time since coming to the city in 2011. Individual classes will now cost $34.
Brooklyn baby bonanza! Brooklyn Bodyburn added a new “Baby Friendly” class to its schedule, where moms can park their little ones in their strollers while they tone on the Megaformer, and Sapere Studio expanded its classes for kids, expectant moms, new moms and babies, and the whole family.
Tracy Anderson is adding a blow-dry bar to her newest studio in Brentwood, California. For now, her New York studio members will have to DIY it.
Meanwhile, SoulCycle is carrying its own yellow bikes up to the High Line for a sunset charity ride to benefit the elevated park.
And Flywheel is getting into the fashion business with a major retail revamp that includes partnering with a slew of hot fashion brands, and branded lifestyle products like thongs (no-VPL!) and flip-flops.
HEALTHY FOOD NEWS
Brooklyn Grange, the city’s largest rooftop farm, announced it will kick off its 2013 season on May 4 with an open house. The farm will offer two farmstands and a CSA again this year.
Smorgasburg and Whole Foods expanded their partnership once again with the debut of Smorgasburg Snack Bar inside Whole Foods Bowery. The permanent venue will stock products from some of the food fair’s most popular vendors.
Nutritionist to the stars, Kimberly Snyder, published her second book, Beauty Detox Foods and will be signing copies at the Barnes & Noble cafe in Union Square from Saturday, March 30, 11–2.
SPA AND BEAUTY BUZZ
The Standard Spa’s blog, Standard Moves, is collaborating with Puma on a new set of GIFs, with yogis and fitness stars demonstrating poses and moves.
Red Flower launched a prenatal treatment at the Mayflower Inn & Spa, called the Nurture to Nature Prenatal Ritual. The 90-minute treatment involves a full-body masque, massage, and more. (We learned there’s a version for non-pregnant spa-goers, too.)
The gorgeous, flower-essence-based line Lotus Wei launched a free iPhone/iPad app that provides personalized flower readings, inspirational messages, and more.
Buddha Nose founder Amy Galper is hosting a make-your-own natural beauty products workshop at Sanctuary Pilates on the Upper East Side on Sunday, April 7.
The Beauty Supper Club, held at Park Slope’s Sun in Bloom, is serving up a 3-course spring theme menu and plenty of natural beauty discourse on Thursday, April 5. The $55 ticket also includes beauty swag.
The 92Y Tribeca will feature a health panel in its Break & Make Series on Tuesday, April 9 that includes the CEO of Weight Watchers, the founders of SoulCycle, and a New York Times health reporter.
