The Best Time to Recommit to Your Dreams Is Right Now, Astrologically Speaking

With the days growing shorter and shorter in the northern hemisphere (and consequently longer in the southern hemisphere), this time of year teaches us that the earth's rotation on its tilted axis and the elliptical circumference around the sun has a direct impact on our mood, well-being, and life. The dramatic difference in length of day and changes in weather ask for rhythmic adaptation. In addition to asking us to shift what we eat, our morning and evening rituals, and our exercise, it also asks us to make adjustments in our relationships. So, as you dive into this second week of October, take stock and ask yourself: How can I adjust my rhythm to beat in accordance with naturally occurring environmental shifts? And, how can I take time to nourish my connection with myself and those I most love?

Of course, as if by design, the cosmos push you toward change and adaptation. Beginning Sunday, October 6, the sun at 13 degrees of Libra squares the nodes of fate, making a 90-degree angle with the north and south nodes. The north and south node, respectively, represent the future we desire to move toward and the habitual patterns from the past that keep us stuck. The sun, on the other hand, represents our vitality. With the sun forming a cardinal T-square with the nodes on Sunday, we find ourselves at the crux of an evolutionary moment: Will we move toward our highest destiny, or will the habits and commitments from the past prevail?

Now's the time to assess the distance between where you are and where you want to be. Are there issues stemming from your history holding you back now? Do you feel like you're snowshoeing through molasses as opposed to flying down the expressway? If so, take the time to consider why. What adjustments can you make? If you feel frustrated, allow that frustration to beckon you forward: Tap into your angst as a form of motivation, and do it now.

The planets want you to make a change—like, uh, today

Seriously, now is the best time, since on the Sunday, the sun in Libra also perfects her square to Saturn in Capricorn. Saturn, the planet of discipline and purpose and the taskmaster of the sky, sits on the south node, and he wants you to do the work. It's time to take a nose-to-the-grindstone, pragmatic approach. Saturn encourages your soul’s growth, massively.

Meanwhile, Mercury, the planet of communication, which now travels secret Scorpio, opposes Uranus, the planet of revolution, in Taurus. This energy can feel brash and abrasive, but the healing message remains: Let go of a firm grip to the past, and embrace the current moment.

Like the seasons that change, you, too, need to shed the old and make room for new growth. On the upside, your intuition will likely come in loud and clear. You might not like the message it offers, but please do heed it. To support you with the seasonal change and the metaphorical skin-shedding, this is a great week to reengage the practice of dry-skin brushing. As you go about it, recite an affirmation that coincides with releasing your old skin. You’ve worked so hard to be exactly who you are right now, so encourage yourself and let go of the old (skin and otherwise).

The relationship forecast looks rocky, so learn what turns you on

On this same day, Venus leaves Libra and heads into the deep, sexy waters of Scorpio, where she'll stay until December 1. With Scorpio ruling transformation, sex, and taboo, the cosmos want you to explore what turns you on. No matter your relationship status, and whether or not things feel rocky, commit to your pleasure. Self-pleasure is a part of self care. Orgasms offer necessary stress release.

That's especially necessary to consider since Tuesday, October 8, Mars, in relationship-oriented Libra, opposes Chiron, the wounded healer. This means you can expect relationship issues that were swept under the carpet to reappear—so do yourself a favor address them now, head-on. Consider exploring relationship therapy or even taking a look at the IMAGO technique.

For those of you who are single and seeking love, take a moment to enjoy your freedom. While the search for a partner can often feel like an uphill battle, not being coupled offers advantages as well. Specifically now, with relationship dynamics being cosmically heated, take the time to enjoy your space and pamper yourself in whatever way feeds you—whether that's a spa treatment, curling up with a book, volunteering, or anything else.

Looking ahead toward the full moon on October 13, note that cosmic potency abounds on October 12. Venus opposes Uranus, awakening you to new frequencies and possibilities within relationships, and fortunately, Mercury trines the north node of fate, helping you bring your vision into reality. So get out your vision board, or, at the very least, align your thoughts with your most desired outcome to take advantage of this energy that holds the power to manifesting your dreams and desires into reality.
