Welcome to My Morning Routine, where Tamara Mellon and other good-life gurus share their personal (frequently surprising, often healthy) morning rituals—to help you make your a.m.’s more awesome.

Tamara Mellon
Designer, founder of her own eponymous accessories brand, and co-founder of Jimmy Choo

I can’t do anything until I’ve had a cup of coffee, so the first thing I do in the morning is stagger to the kitchen and make my almond milk cappuccino. Then, I wake my daughter, Minty (Araminta), to go to school, and have my trainer [Kaitlyn Noble] come over. We do barre exercises, a lot of smaller movements.

On other mornings, I’ll do a hike up Franklin Canyon or yoga. I love Tantris, Russell Simmons' new studio on Sunset. I’ll take any class; they’re all so good. There’s one called Flow that's really nice—it’s all hot yoga. I mix it up to get the blood pumping to my brain.

After I’ve worked out, I usually have fruit and a Garden of Life protein shake. I also put Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides powder and blueberries and raspberries into my smoothie. I’ve just recently changed to a plant-based diet. A few months ago, I did a cleanse—not a juice cleanse, but eating only fruits and vegetables. After 10 days, I felt so amazing that I kind of became an accidental vegetarian.

I’m usually really quick in the morning. I’ll literally shower in three minutes, exfoliate my face, put on some tinted moisturizer and body oil—I love Weleda Body Oils—and that’s about it. I’m out the door and at the office by 10 a.m.
