The Week in Wellness: A luggage workout, trick yoga mats, and more

wood yoga matWelcome to our weekly roundup of wellness tidbits, healthy hints we heard whispered through the grapevine, and new places and products that caught our eye. Happy Friday!

Trompe l’oeil yoga mats. Plank’s Art-On-Mat series ($95), made from sustainable rubber, look like a rough-hewn farmhouse floor (pictured), a grassy patch complete with garden snake, or a bathroom floor with your no-longer-needed anti-anxiety meds spilled over it.

Spreading the LOVE*. Organic Avenue, purveyor of juicy goodness, is opening two new locations—in Greenwich Village and in Roslyn Heights, Long Island—later this summer.

Get groovin’. You heard that yoga studios are the new nightclubs, right? Well, they can also prep you for a night out. YogaWorks’ newest class, DanceWorks, will teach you sweet moves with just a hint of yoga mixed in. Show up with an open mind (and hips) if you want to have as much fun as we did. Thursday at 2:15, Soho YogaWorks.

Yoga with a side of quinoa. On Wednesday, June 22, David Romanelli is bringing his Yoga for Foodies event back to NYC, this time featuring top chef contestant Andrea Beaman. We went last time, and both the yoga and food were delicious.

Lift your luggage. Traveling this summer? Watch this hilarious video that shows you how to get a workout while you wait to board the plane. We suggest swapping an iPod for the boombox, mainly because we’re pretty sure the trainer had to time-travel to 1993 to pick it up, and who has time for that?
