If you thought models eating tiny portions or starving themselves before big events was bad, consider this: Supermodel Adriana Lima stops drinking all liquids, including water, before hitting the runway.
The 30-year-old Brazilian opened up to the Telegraph this week about her pre-show fitness and diet regimen leading up to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which happened yesterday and will be on network television at the end of the month.
There’s nothing wrong with an intense workout plan, and the beauty it brings, with exercises like boxing, weight lifting, and jump roping in the months leading up to the show.
The issue is with Lima’s “nutritionist” who apparently tells her it’s okay to maintain that level of fitness while on a liquid diet, followed by a 12-hour period of not eating or drinking anything at all. “No liquids at all so you dry out, sometimes you can lose up to eight pounds just from that,” she tells the Telegraph.
Sophia Neophitou, the chief stylist for the show, doesn’t help the matter by comparing Lima’s preparation to training for a marathon. Marathon runners, of all people, know the importance of lots of fuel and hydration.
Sounds like Lima could seriously use the help of Cleanse founder Anne-Marie Van Dijk, or maybe she could draw some inspiration from Christy Turlington’s fridge, stocked with fresh (and lean) protein-rich foods.
