Happy Friday!

Sporty shopping. Racked reported yesterday that Athleta’s two New York City stores are nearly completed and now have official opening dates. The Upper West Side location will open on August 10, and the Upper East Side on August 11.

Mad women. Not to be outdone, Lululemon also announced a new Temple to Luon on Madison Avenue and 84th Street. They already have an Upper East Side location, but perhaps their move to New York’s Rodeo Drive is a play for the tushes of uptown socialites.

Behind the scenes at the greenmarket. On Wednesday, we stopped by the New York premiere of Farmageddon, a documentary about the regulatory challenges faced by small, organic farms stuck in a system designed for big agriculture. Turns out your favorite Union Square vendor may be struggling with more than rotten tomatoes. Blogger Max Goldberg gives more info on the movie and the panel discussion that followed here.

trudie styler yogaDr. Bronner goes to Washington. Speaking of politics, the company that makes everyone’s favorite all-natural hippie soap took a stand this week by announcing their support for the Safe Cosmetics Act of 2011, which would eliminate certain chemicals from beauty products and provide better regulation. (And thankfully, their announcement was eloquent and strong, unlike the somewhat strange ramblings that cover their labels.) We’ve got your back, Dr. Bronner.

App attack. Yesterday, Sephora launched an iPad app that provides beauty news and an iPad-only interactive summer catalog. We haven’t downloaded it yet, but we’re dying to know how much play they give their natural brands. Trudie Styler also debuted an app in collaboration with Gaiam called “Trudie Styler’s Weight Loss Yoga.” In addition to yoga sequences, it includes Styler dispensing healthy living tips from the English estate she shares with Sting and a two-week meal plan created by her personal chef. Thanks for keeping it real, Trudie.

New York City as gym. The city Department of Health expanded their BeFitNYC program with an summer-long initiative they’re calling “Make NYC Your Gym.” We want to do our part, so may we suggest downloading the most comprehensive Summer Guide to outdoor fitness in NYC available?
