Sales of the White Castle Slider-Scented Candle, which smells (rather pungently) of onion and burgers, have raised $500,000 for a health-related non-profit organization.

Last night the fast-food chain gifted $500,000 of its profits from sales of this candle (currently sold out at, White Castle’s retail website!) to Autism Speaks, a cause supported by Martha Stewart, Vera Wang, and candle-maker Harry Slatkin.

A good cause, indeed. But maybe there’s a healthier fund-raising method and message that can benefit the organization next year?
