One thing New York City doesn’t want for in this economic slump? Yoga studios. And yet more are popping up all over town.

The Dharma Yoga Center, led by the legendary Dharma Mittra, opened a new west-side location at the end of 2010, and Yo Yoga!, debuted on the east side overlooking the Queensboro Bridge this week.

“Small businesses contribute to recovery, and we’re contributing in a way that is affordable and respects our students’ own financial situation,” say Rebecca and Kennedy Weible, Yo Yoga’s owners, who charge just $12 per 60-minute class. “We want yoga to be affordable and accessible, because we believe in the practice.”

Here are the quick and dirty details you’ll need for a trial trikonasana at these new New York yoga studios:

Yo Yoga!
Vibe: “Our students will feel they are a part of a studio that takes yoga seriously without taking itself too seriously.”
Classes: About 90 percent open-level vinyasa, a few Power Yoga, and one candle-lit donation class per week
Location: 344 E. 59th Street, 3rd Floor, between 1st and 2nd Avenues
Price: $12 per class, $50 for 5, $90 for 10, or $100 unlimited monthly
Perk: Other than being super affordable, Yo Yoga! will offer outdoor classes on their 1.300-sq-ft roof deck as soon as the city thaws out. www.yoyoganyc.com

Dharma Yoga West
Vibe: “Dharma began disseminating his knowledge before ‘styles’ of yoga became popular and has remained truthful to the original classical practice.”
