Aussies pride themselves on “having a go.” Despite having lived away for so long, I still feel like an Aussie girl at heart, and I like to think that’s the reason I’m open to trying new things and being brave in my choices—whether they be in business or relationships, or discovering new ways to maintain balance in my life. When I was younger I would happily try the latest health and beauty fads without blinking an eye, but these days I’m more measured in my approach.
Over the years I’ve tried some wonderful, healing, and nourishing treatments. These are a few I swear by.
It’s an ancient practice that’s known to help whiten your teeth naturally! You swish coconut oil around your mouth for 20 minutes (yes, it does feel like a long time) daily. The idea is that it improves overall oral health. You definitely notice whiter teeth, but it’s time consuming.
Guided meditation during acupuncture
I tried this while visiting in Perth, Western Australia, recently. I’ve always loved acupuncture as a form of relaxation, and I meditate daily as part of my morning routine. So when I heard about a treatment that combined the two, I was curious. It lived up to expectations! I felt centered and relaxed, and my mood lifted. It’s now a staple of my holistic health menu list.
On a trip to The Ranch at Live Oak in Malibu last year, I discovered my body responds really well to a plant-based diet. Since that visit (which included a few days of completely switching off digitally), I now do a plant-based week at the start of every season, or before a shoot as a way of cleansing my body and resetting.
Palo santo is a type of wood used the ancient practice of smudging, or purifying a room with smoke in order to clear negative energy from a space. I had never heard of it before, but I loved the idea of clearing negative energy! I had a friend come and do it for me at home in Miami. It was great fun. As I get older, I’m learning the value of creating balance within, of being mindful, and projecting positive energy from the minute I wake up.
