In astrology, Venus signs are commonly associated with our preferences specific to love and relationships. While there's truth in the assertion that your Venus sign can function like a blueprint for relationship success, the planet can also reveal much more about each of us and our personal priorities. As astrologer Julia Topaz pointed out in a recent Instagram post, our Venus sign can reveal so much about what we value in a number of areas of life including ourselves, others, money, and work. Essentially our Venus placement can reveal what we like (and dislike), love, and cherish, and it influences our overall value system, says astrologer Narayana Montúfar.

To learn your Venus sign, plug your birth info (date, time, and place) into your favorite astrology app or online natal-chart generator. Then, keep reading to learn what your Venus sign says about you and what you value, according to Montúfar. Fair warning: You will feel seen.

What your Venus signs reveal about your values, according to an astrologer

Aries

People with Venus in Aries have two non-negotiable values: fun and excitement. “As a fire sign ruled by active Mars, Venus in Aries natives are ambitious, full of energy, and very enterprising—after all, Aries likes to go first,” Montúfar says. This deep desire for fun and spontaneity is also something they value highly in relationships (romantic and otherwise), she adds. And if that sizzle starts to fade, so does their interest in the relationship.

Taurus

Venus rules Taurus, so it feels right at home in this placement, valuing all the good things in life. “In this Earth sign, Venus adores comfort, sensuality, luxury, and all things artistic,” Montúfar says. “To live the good life, these natives need money, which they are quite good at making.” In relationships, she adds, Venus in Taurus folks value deep commitment, and they’re typically in it for the long haul.

Gemini

For Venus in Gemini, Montúfar says talking, exchanging, and intellectual stimulation are of utmost importance. She adds that variety is also a top value, more so than any other Venus placement, as these folks tend to get bored quickly. So it comes as no surprise that Venus in Gemini people tend to be social and fun to hang out with.

Cancer

There are two things Venus in Cancer values more than anything: family and self care. “They value family ties above anything and are so close to [the people they love], that if someone messes with them, they’ll fiercely come to their rescue,” Montúfar says. “Since Cancer is ruled by the moon, Venus in Cancer people are [also] big on self care and need a lot of rest and relaxation in order to feel good.”

Leo

Venus in Leo folks love to both give and receive in a big way. “They are generous with their time, love, and money—and they not only want, but need the same attention in return,” Montúfar says. In true Leo fashion, she adds, this placement is super magnetic and can be a little extra (read: dramatic) at times. In relationships, Venus is Leo values flashy romance and affection. “When these folks like someone, everyone around will notice,” she adds.

Virgo

According to Topaz, Venus in Virgo finds value via improving and fixing things, whether it be a relationship, a project, or even oneself, which reflects Virgo’s devotion to hard work. “People with Venus in Virgo…are our own work of art, tirelessly chasing our ‘flaws’ and improving ourselves,” Topaz writes in her Instagram post.

Libra

Venus also rules Libra, Montúfar says, which is why this placement is considered lucky. She describes these people as classy, gentle, social butterflies who attract attention and abundance in many forms. Their likes include clothing, design, art, and the artsy people that create them. Their dislikes include drama and bad manners.

Scorpio

“For Venus in Scorpio, privacy and intimacy are everything,” Montúfar says. “People with this placement may have a tough exterior, but they are actually so sensitive and might sometimes hide it.” They’re not about surface-level connections, and she adds that this placement is loyal, values getting to know people on a deep level, and tends to gravitate towards no-nonsense people like themselves.

Sagittarius

Venus in Sagittarius is free-spirited, fun to hang out with, and down for anything. “People born with this placement are worldly, open-minded, and hungry to live life to the fullest,” Montúfar says, but don’t try telling them what to do—they don’t like that. “They love culture, variety, and surrounding themselves with people from many different walks of life.”

Capricorn

Venus in Capricorn is ambitious as hell. “People with this placement work hard and play hard,” Montúfar says. “They know what they want and how to get it—and they also want quality over quantity.” Although they come off as having a tough exterior, she adds that Venus in Capricorn also has a soft, romantic side.

Aquarius

“The number one word for Venus in Aquarius is freedom, as Aquarius is ruled by wild child Uranus,” Montúfar says. “They are independent and want to live and let others live. They admire people who, like them, are open-minded and dance to the rhythm of their own drum.” Rules? No, thank you.

Pisces

“Venus in Pisces is the epitome of creative inspiration, so people with this placement tend to value art, beauty, and creativity,” Montúfar says. “Venus in Pisces is not impressed with flash or material things, this planet-sign combo really values what’s inside, instead of the outside.”
