September is Yoga Month, and to celebrate, we’re catching you up on all things yoga every Monday through the month.

This week: Fashion week, yoga style

New York City Fashion Week is officially here. And lest you think the catwalks and celeb-spotting had nothing to do with yoga, think again.

This season, yoga fashion’s getting a major upgrade with Vivienne Tam’s high-end Fashion Yoga collection debuting on the runway tomorrow.

Yoga pants like hers will definitely necessitate reviewing our guide to prolonging the life of your (high-priced) yoga pants.

We don’t think that Lululemon, the market leader of yoga fashion, which rakes in astonishing profits and just launched a sister clothing line will be negatively affected.

Further proof that there’s plenty of room for yoga brands: the recent opening of Athleta’s two New York City stores, Danskin’s new yoga-friendly line, and Spanx’s artfully slimming activewear collection.

And there are more up-and-coming indie brands than ever, joining the ranks of Tanya B’s bright and playful basics and Creem’s flowing organic fabrics.

While we look to see what yoga apparel trends emerge for fall and holiday—are button details over?—we salute the previous year’s breakout looks: 2009’s skeggings and 2010’s yoga harem pants, a fave of Mary-Kate Olsen.
