Your workouts at top New York studios next week benefit others

EMpowered personal training founder Emily Cook Harris is adding some fundraising power to New Yorkers’ June workout schedules next week with the launch of NYC Fit Week, in partnership with She’s the First.

The week of workouts includes 14 classes at some of the city’s top boutique fitness studios, and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the organization’s work on furthering girls’ education in low-income countries.

“I believe in the power of paying it forward. It’s not just about reaching your own personal goals, but also about helping others reach theirs,” says Harris.

Participating studios include Flywheel, Barry’s Bootcamp, Yogamaya, Uplift Studios, The Fhitting Room, Flex Studios, CityRow, Exceed Physical Culture, Swerve, Body Conceptions, and more (really). It’s like Sweaty Saturday, but a whole week.

NYC Fit Week is yet another example of how the city’s fitness scene gets more and more charitable as it grows, from big events to studios that have philanthropy built into their business model. Harris personally donates ten percent of her business proceeds to She’s the First year-round, which probably helps her clients push through squats with meaningful motivation. —Lisa Elaine Held
