There is nothing better during summer than the accessibility of fresh and delicious produce: juicy tomatoes, flavorful corn on the cob, and crunchy lettuce. (Did your mouth just start watering, too?)

And while most people spend the summer working toward slowing down and enjoying the simple moments with friends and family, Mary Helen Bowers has found that visiting a local produce market is the perfect kill-two-birds solution.

“There’s something so magical about shopping through a farmers’ market,” the founder of Ballet Beautiful says. “We shop there at least once or twice a week in the summer. Something about visiting each stand and shop just helps you to slow down and really take it all in.”

From artisanal cheeses to fresh baked goods, Bowers and her family love to slowly explore and pick out healthy and fresh options for every meal. “The more fresh fruits and veggies I eat, the better I feel—but I also love to stock up on organic yogurt, cheese, and bread to round out snacks and meals,” she explains. “The food seems to taste better when you see where it comes from.”

Bowers’ favorite go-to summer meal? A goat cheese salad. “We make it with honey lavender goat cheese and blackberries from the market, and it is so fresh and light,” she says. “Just top it with olive oil, lemon juice, sea salt and cracked pepper.” Can we come over and have some?
