Kate Hudson’s Delicious Avocado Smoothie Recipe Is a Surprising Source of Calcium Thanks to This Non-Dairy Ingredient

There is power in greens, as Kate Hudson knows. The Fabletics co-founder, who recently entered the world of supplements with her latest venture inBLOOM, joined us on Well+Good’s The Avocado Show to share a peek into her life during quarantine—including her favorite avocado smoothie recipe.

"Cooking is definitely something I've 'strengthened,'" Hudson shared. "I just feel like my cooking has had to be more consistent so I've been having more fun with that." Her go-to quarantine foods include roast chicken, sushi rice, pasta, and her go-to green smoothie recipe, which she whipped up on camera with hostess Ella Dove.

Not only is her spin on the classic wellness drink delicious, but it also comes with tons of nutrition benefits. For example, avocado—whether you’re eating it on toast or drinking it up as a smoothie—is high in fiber (with some protein as well), rich in sleep-promoting magnesium, and can help your body better absorb vitamin D, among other benefits. You'll also get protein from the plant-based powder (Hudson uses inBloom, natch, but you can use any you desire) and the alt-milk, depending on the variety you choose.

Hudson's smoothie also offers up a decent dose of plant-based calcium thanks to the inclusion of spinach. The leafy green delivers around 25 milligrams per cup; the spinach in Hudson's recipe will help you meet about five percent of your recommended daily intake. A small but still important drop in the bucket, especially considering it can be harder to get enough calcium if you follow a plant-based diet. (Up the calcium in this recipe even more by swapping out the spinach for kale, which contains a whopping 101 milligrams per cup.)

The final result is a sweet, flavorful smoothie that packs in tons of vegetables in a convenient, portable cup. Want to try? Grab the recipe below.
