Certainly no one can dispute the gentle joy that is The Pioneer Woman, or the talent Ree Drummond has for instructing people on how to make a perfectly delicious stack of lemon blueberry pancakes. But is she cool? Weeellll....

While cooking shows provide a certain level of comfort that is beloved and valued, it's no secret that social media has become the treasure trove for recipe content. Instagram was made for food photos that leave you hungry just at the mere sight of them. As for short, easy-to-digest cooking tutorials though, TikTok has become the place to go. "TikTok is great for a few different reasons," Healthier Together author Liz Moody says. "Because it's a video app, you get to show the process of the recipe, rather than just the finished result, which is really helpful in explaining steps and also explaining why different ingredients are beneficial."

Another major benefit: it's less aspirational than IG. "The videos on TikTok tend to be more 'real life' and less posed than Instagram," Moody says. "The point is to be creative, playful and have fun, without holding yourself back for not having the perfect house or outfit or food set up."

Moody says she uses TikTok to share healthy recipes like her grain-free s'mores brownies, healthy apple crisp, and vegan queso (which has over 900,000 views so far). "I also like to create content that shares my wellness message in a way that's both a deeper dive than Instagram," she says, pointing to a video answering questions about CBD as an example.

Besides Moody, here are five other people to follow for healthy cooking on TikTok, recommended by Moody herself:

1. ARIELLE LORRE

"Her food is so dreamy looking," Moody says of Lorre, who is the founder of the wellness blog The Blonde Files. A couple standouts: her whipped matcha and vegan mac-and-cheese. "She also shares workout videos and things about her LA life," Moody adds.

2. FEEL GOOD FOODIE

Yumna Jawad, the blogger behind Feel Good Foodie, is another can't-miss TikTok account. "She has tons of healthy recipes," Moody says. One quar cooking must-watch is her chocolate chip banana bread. (Are you even self-isolating if you haven't made banana bread yet?) She also offers up smart cooking hacks that every healthy chef needs to know—like how to cook sweet potato in the microwave and hard boil eggs in the air fryer.

3. SARAH GRACE MECK, RD

If you're looking for some dietitian-approved healthy cooking on TikTok, Moody suggests following this registered dietitian. "Her recipes are easy to follow and do, and she also posts lots of body positivity inspiration," Moody says. She also uses her science smarts to debunk a ton of nutrition myths.

4. NUTRTITION BABE

Ilana Muhlstein, RD, aka Nutrition Babe, is another registered dietitian Moody is into because everything she posts is easy to make at home. A couple to try: scallion pancakes and eggplant pepper dip. Doesn't hurt that she's hilarious, too.
