When you’re in need of an emotional reset, you might instinctively grab the remote to zone out, but you may want to reach for some seltzer instead—specifically a variation that’s blue and full of mood-balancing properties.
In her book, Adaptogens: 75+ Herbal Recipes and Elixirs to Improve Your Skin, Mood, Energy, Focus, and More, herbalist Agatha Noveille offers adaptogen-filled recipes to address different aspects of wellness.
One of the most eye-catching is a lavender tulsi sparkling water recipe, which Noveille says has properties that improve emotional well-being.
“Tulsi is one of my favorite calming adaptogens,” she says. “It really helps me think more clearly and feel more level-headed.”
Noveille combined tulsi, also known as holy basil, with lavender because the calming flower is a nervine, which is said to support nervous system health. She stirs one of these drinks for herself when she wants to center herself, still her mind, or clear a mental block.
You can also imbibe with friends. “The emotionally supportive, uplifting qualities of tulsi and lavender can make for wonderful, relaxed vibes when you gather your tribe,” Noveille says. Plus, everyone will think it’s so pretty. Sounds like the perfect drink for your next book club meeting.

Lavender Tulsi Sparkling Water
1 (12-oz.) serving
12 oz. sparkling water
1 serving tulsi extract (30 to 60 drops, depending on your bottle’s instructions)
5 drops lavender extract (not lavender essential oil or lavender flavoring)
1 lemon wedge
1 sprig fresh lavender (optional)
1. Pour sparkling water into a glass.
2. Add tulsi and lavender extracts. Stir to combine.
3. Squeeze the lemon wedge gently and drop it into your drink. Garnish with a sprig of fresh lavender, if desired.
