Who says a pint of Guinness has to be the official drink of St. Patrick’s Day? Around here, we like our Irish-themed beverages to be filled with green (get it?) veggies and nut butters.
The Montage Kapalua Bay in Hawaii feels the same way. The gorgeous, we-want-to-go-to-there Maui resort created the cheeky “Luck of the Islands” package in honor of Tuesday’s holiday, which includes a green algae body wrap at the spa, as well as plenty of these refreshing, protein and calcium-packed green smoothies.
And if your St. Patty’s plans include a more local celebration of, say, pub crawls, well, this recipe will probably come in handy the next day. “The coconut milk and banana rehydrate and replenish your electrolytes, while the antioxidants and omega 3s in the spinach and kale detoxify,” says Leila Storey, the executive spa director of Montage Kapalua Bay. Honolua Bay Smoothie Recipe
2 stems of kale
1 handful of spinach
2 Tbsp almond butter
1/2 cup almond milk
1/4 cup yogurt
1/2 scoop of crushed ice
Mix all ingredients in blender. Pour in glass and serve!
