Spa water isn’t just for those super indulgent afternoons you spend in a bathrobe—it’s also key to keeping you hydrated through your toughest summer workouts.

But if you’re having trouble shifting your image of the refreshing beverage towards something a bit more active, Akin Akman can help. That’s because the Soul Cycle instructor-turned-Insta-famous trainer is a big fan of sipping on some perfectly infused H20.

What’s behind his love of spa water? Akman teaches an average of five heart-pumping, beat-driven classes a day—and that’s between exercising on his own. In other words, he needs more than just an acai bowl to keep up his energy. And he’d never turn to the bottled stuff to get the job done.

Instead, he makes his own spa water on the regular—and suggests that you do, too. “I slice up some cucumber and lemon and throw it in ice cold water—which isn’t revolutionary, but my kicker is the mint,” Akman explains. “It perks me up instantly and adds in that extra surprise of flavor.”

Whether or not you’re part of Akin’s Army, consider this DIY recipe an order.
