This Turmeric-Honey Cocktail Could Help Soothe Your Throat—and Your Hangover

There are two things topping winter wish lists everywhere right now: an island vacation and a strong-as-hell immune system. This turmeric cocktail will help get you closer to both: Developed by John Stanton, beverage manager of Kimpton Seafire Resort & Spa in Grand Cayman, its bright yellow hue comes from antioxidant-rich turmeric juice that can help reduce inflammation and boost immune system responses—as much as an alcoholic beverage can anyway. Plus, it has a fresh, vacation-worthy flavor thanks to a botanical gin and refreshing cucumber juice.

Stanton created this cocktail with two audiences in mind. “The first is the health-conscious vegetable lovers, the type that frequent juice bars and take pleasure in earthier flavors, and avoid anything too sweet,” says Stanton. “The second is, well... people with hangovers.”

It incorporates half an ounce of turmeric juice, an ultra-concentrated form of fresh turmeric, which is balanced with a hit of lime juice, fresh cucumber juice, a splash of gin plus Lillet Blanc liqueur, and honey as a natural sweetener. “It pairs well by creating a rich and sweet, natural counterpoint to the spicy and somewhat bitter flavors inherent in turmeric,” says Stanton.
