Target Just Launched a Colorful, Whimsical, and Super-Affordable New Home Line

Is there a home-decor aesthetic that's harder to cultivate than Wabi Sabi? The Japanese concept takes pride in finding beauty in imperfection—like, say, pairing ostensibly mismatching patterns—but doesn't seem to have structured rules, making it more difficult to achieve than minimalism, which basically just requires paring down your furnishings, Marie Kondo–style. Luckily, Target—which tends to not only provide you what you want but also do so before you even know that you want it (see: the Magnolia Home collaboration)—just launched a new home collection that offers plenty of options for mixing and matching patterns and colors to create a Wabi Sabi–style aesthetic.

Opalhouse—launched April 8—applies rich, bright colors, textures, and details to more than 1,300 products in bedding, bath, decor, tabletop, and furniture sections, according to the company's press release. Most items are $30 or less (prices start at $2), though some of the bigger pieces have steeper price tags, like the arched headboard for full-size beds at $330.

"Our guests will have access to more aesthetics than ever, giving them the opportunity to discover items that reflect their individuality and style, bringing joy to their homes in an easy, affordable way," said Mark Tritton, Target’s executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, of the expansive and colorful line.

The eclectic offerings seem to pick up on cues from the launch of Iris Apfel's wild home line for Grandin Road and the resurgence of maximalism (which is thanks in large part to the success of Gucci's Matisse-like line). To help you sift through the huge collection, I've rounded up six of my favorite items.
